Dr Anneline Padayachee
Where food science & nutrition meet.
Dr Anneline Padayachee is a rare hybrid of a food scientist and nutritionist.
A nutritional food scientist.
She busts food and nutrition myths and gives food producers and policymakers the information you need to make educated and panoptic decisions.
Trusted by these events and organisations
Dr Anneline communicates the fundamentals of food and nutrition science so you can make informed decisions
“We eat food, not nutrients.”
But food is our primary source of where we get nutrients from. Nutrients are the fuel source of our cells, the building blocks for our DNA, the support crew for our immune system. From cognitive function to improving our health and well-being.
It’s complex. I bring deep research skills, expert communication, evidence-based science, human behavioural expertise, and cross-sector industry experience to the food industry. From in the paddock to on the conveyor belt, from processing technology to the aspects of human decision making, I cover all the food-related hurdles that ultimately leads to consumption, digestion, absorption and health.
Nutrition is only useful if the food is eaten. If it tastes like saw-dust, no matter how good it may be, it's going to be rejected. If it's thrown away, it's lost. If it's unaffordable, it’s unobtainable. Nutrition is so much more than just calories and grams of protein. The human element and the factors that control food choices cannot be forgotten.

Speaking Engagements
The world of nutrition and food science isn’t simple, but I break it down in a way everyone can understand. With a custom approach to each speaking engagement, I explore food industry-related hurdles from a nutritional science perspective. Since everything is interconnected, I lead the audience through a journey that reveals how each issue relates to the bigger picture.
Nutrition Scientific Formulations Advice
Designing food with nutrition in mind is more than just completing a nutrition information panel or adding a few "nutrient" ingredients in a formula. We aim to look at the factors and quality of ingredients that could be affecting absorption in the body. We offer a scientific research evidence-based approach to creating formulations with nutrition, function and taste in mind, tailored to scientific target audiences. If needed, we also provide additional digestibility research advice and study design with relevant partners that may be needed for specific health outcomes as well as interpreting results for commercial innovations.
Food & Education Tours
Like food and wine pairings, I offer food and education pairings, but practical, immersive tours with a unique perspective on the complexity of the food supply, drawing from scientific expertise and firsthand experience across sectors. I guide you to learn, ask questions, and meet experts, fostering collaboration and breaking down silos in the world of food production.
These bespoke tours are seasonal, with limited spaces. Sign up for upcoming events so you can be the first to know all tour details.
Courses
Food and nutrition course developed for food producers and the processing industry. This will not convert you into a nutrition expert, but it will help you understand the complexity of nutrition, and the foundational principles needed to position foods or formulate with health in mind. Real science presented simply empowering producers and product development teams to deal with conflicting information and have real impact on human health.
How this came to be
Food is the ultimate equaliser. Regardless of where you're from, what you do, or how much you earn, we all need to eat. Food supply from paddock to plate is a basic need of all peoples, everywhere.
Given that nutrition starts on farm with farmers, undergoes further change via food processing, is delivered by retailers, it is one of the easiest ways consumers can contribute to their own health and that of the planet. As the pressure on a safe, nutritious, and fair food supply grows, it can be challenging to sort fact from fiction and make informed choices. Farmers are increasingly needing to defend their products against the prevalence of obesity and allergies, along with global warming and natural disasters.
Alternative technologies could help provide answers to gaps in system. Food practices are more stringent than ever, and food producers need support to reach the right regulations and define the nutritional facts that come with their foods.
The food industry is full of confusion, and the divide between food science and nutrition science only adds to that. Dr Anneline brings a rare hybrid of expertise to the table. With a PhD in Nutritional Food Science, Dr Anneline is here to define and share the truth that lies somewhere in between the two.
Where this is headed... and why it matters
It’s my goal to advocate, inform and clarify. Knowledge is power, and I’m here to empower people in and outside the food industry. The world of food is more than food science and nutrition. It has a direct impact on the economy, public health, and the environment that surrounds us. There are so many different perspectives and cultural aspects that policymakers, producers, industry, and consumers should consider.
