Dr Anneline: The Food Scientist
Real Food. Real Science. Real Simple.
About
PhD (Nutritional Food Science), B.Applied Science (Food Science and Nutrition) (1st Class Honours)
Like how petrol fuels our cars, food fuels our bodies. And like petrol quality affects car performance, the quality of the food we eat affects the health of our body, good or bad.
We eat food not nutrients. But food is composed of nutrients. It's one thing for a tomato to have vitamin C and lycopene, but how much of those nutritive compounds are absorbed? And that is where I come in.
I am a food-based nutrition preventative health scientist who helps consumers, HCPs and industry improve their understanding of how food affects health and aging from the gut outwards. I do this by demystifying the science of food, digestion and nutrient delivery in the body.
There are many factors that affect the quality of food from the paddock to processing. And then there are many factors that affect nutrient absorption in the digestive tract. Human digestion is complex and amazing.
My expertise covers the following food related topics:
- Processing technology
- Nutrient and food composition
- Digestive processes, including the 2nd brain and the gut microbiome
- Food factors that affect growth and development, immunity and fertility
- Sustainable agricultural practices
- Food and pleasure
Nick-named "The Simple Scientist" by a journalist, my superpower is being able to communicate complex research with consumer behaviour & social trends into a simple relatable, engaging narrative. Check out my LinkedIn for more details on my experience and qualifications.

"Hey Anneline, I really enjoyed the day! Your presentation style was great, and I love that
you incorporated sustainability, activism, indigenous knowledge etc.
Totally feel free to quote me :) I have been to hundreds of events now with work both
presenting and attending, and you were a pleasure as an MC."
Anna Guenther,
CEO/ Chief Bubble Blower"Anneline, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you did in hosting Boot Camp last week.
In my experience, seminars like this can go two ways, especially when you have a mix of large multinationals with passionate family producers, Govt and policy institutions sat alongside naked commercial interests.
The success in pulling these diverse interests together and creating an engaging and thought provoking day for such a mix was largely due to yourself.
You set exactly the right tone for the day with your mega trend presentation and then pulled out the right mix of stories, emotion and information from the panel sessions. Your pre work research and creative "on your feet" thinking made it feel relevant and fresh.
I hope to see you again in various aspects of the developing Brisbane and Qld food scene. Exciting times!"
